FAQ

Beginning in April 2025, the Gladiator Tennis digital player experience will begin to migrate from the historic green site to our new platform! Check out the information below to learn more about the transition.

General

You can login at player.gladiatortennis.com

This will be the new URL going forward so you can bookmark this and/or save it as a favorite on your mobile device.

Yes, but not until later this year. You will receive multiple announcements celebrating its launch when it is available.

In the interim, consider adding Gladiator Tennis to your mobile home screen

Not yet, however it also has some new things that the old player experience never had. New features include setting your schedule availability, ranking your opponents honor score, and capturing notes from your matches.

New Gladiator seasons will appear in the new Gladiator Tennis digital experience moving forward. Please navigate to player.gladiatortennis.com to see your scheduled matches. If you are not seeing matches after logging into player.gladiatortennis.com please reach out to your league coordinator

We will keep the old site at app.gladiatortennis.com live for the next few months. There are a few ongoing seasons like Winter #2, Winter Doubles and St. Louis Juniors that are mid season. They will wrap up those existing seasons on the old player experience. We will also ensure that the necessary functionality has been migrated to the new site.

Historical Data

Yes, we are maintaining season and match performance from the past. Soon you will be able to see more unique views into how you have performed in the past. Currently, if you want to view your previous season performance, you can use the old player experience at app.gladiatortennis.com

We will be adding a purchases section soon, but in the meantime, you can see your purchases at app.gladiatortennis.com

Skill Level

We have reset the male player's skill level based on UTR for the Spring Singles season. Many players moved up or down a level. As always, adjustments will be made after each subsequent season to maximize competitiveness.

We will be checking the UTR for every male player one more time prior to scheduling the Spring Singles season, and making adjustments as indicated.

Only 2 exceptions to the UTR will be made:

  •  Players who finished as champion of their skill level in 2024 move up to the next level, regardless of UTR.
  • In the rare event that a player's UTR indicates that they should move down 2 levels instead of 1, that player will only move down 1 level.

** No other exceptions will be made to the UTR placement scale.  The placement guidelines are applied for all players with 100% consistency in order to ensure the integrity of the skill levels, maximizing the competitiveness of match play.

We have found that the UTR data for women players in Chicagoland and St. Louis is not an accurate enough barometer to change players skill levels.

Point System

Points are awarded based on the outcome of your match and specific circumstances. Here’s a breakdown:

1. Winning a Completed Match

  • Straight-Sets Win: If you win your match in two sets (e.g., 6-2, 6-4), you earn 14 points.
  • Split-Sets Win: If you win your match in three sets (e.g., 6-2, 3-6, 1-0), you earn 12 points.

2. Losing a Completed Match:

  • If you lose a completed match, you still earn points for your effort! You receive points equal to the total number of games you won across the two sets you won the most games, but this is capped at a maximum of 8 points.
  • Example: If you lose 4-6, 5-7, you won 4+5=9 games, but you will receive the maximum of 8 points. If you lose 2-6, 3-6, you won 2+3=5 games, so you receive 5 points.

3. Using a Substitute (Sub)

  • Your Sub Plays: If you arrange for a substitute to play your match, you (the original player) will receive whatever points your sub earns based on their result (win/loss points as described above).
  • Opponent Uses a Sub: If your opponent needs to use a substitute to play against you, you (the original player) will receive 0 points for that match. (Note: This applies when the opponent arranges the sub).

4. Incomplete Matches (Due to Withdrawal):

  • If a match cannot be completed because one player withdraws (e.g., due to injury), you must report who withdrew.
  • The player who did not withdraw receives the win and points based on the score at the time of withdrawal:
-14 points if they were ahead in all sets played.
-12 points if they had lost any set or the score was tied in sets/games at the time of withdrawal.
  • The player who withdrew receives points for games won (up to the 8-point maximum) based on the score at the time of withdrawal.

5. Incomplete Matches (Due to External Factors):

  • If a match has to stop due to weather or other circumstances beyond player control (and cannot be rescheduled), points are calculated based on the score at the time of stoppage, applying the standard win/loss rules
  • We strongly encourage players to try and reschedule to complete the match whenever possible!

6. Defaults (Forfeits):

  • If a match cannot be played and results in a default:
    - default win 10 points.
    - default loss receives 0 points.

This is a common question, and the answer lies in how points are awarded in different scenarios:

Fixed Points for Wins: Winning a match gives you a set amount of points (14 or 12), regardless of how many games you won. Winning 6-0, 6-0 earns 14 points, not 12 game points.

Capped Points for Losses: While losers earn points based on games won, there's a maximum cap of 8 points. Even if you win 9 or 10 games in a tough loss, you'll only receive 8 points. Additionally, you will only receive points for games won in your two highest scoring sets.

Default Points: A default win grants 10 points, which isn't tied to any games played.

Incomplete Match Points: Points awarded in incomplete matches (withdrawals or external factors) are based on the specific rules (14, 12, or game points up to 8) and the score at the time of stoppage, not necessarily just the raw number of games won.

Opponent Substitute: If your opponent used a sub, you receive 0 points for that match, regardless of any games played.
