Rules & Guidelines
Our league operates with a flexible, self-managed format, so it's important to know the rules! Matches are unofficiated, meaning players are responsible for setting up matches, knowing the rules, and reporting scores. For a quick overview of the key rules, see below, or download the full rulebook for all the details on match play, scoring, and more.
Warriors Code: Rules & Guidelines
Getting Started
- Schedule & Contact Info: You will receive an email when your schedule and opponent details are available online. Keep your contact info updated on the website.
- Match Setup: Both players (home & away) are responsible for arranging the match. Contact your opponent as soon as possible.
- Score Reporting: The match winner reports the score online, and the opponent verifies it. Report scores by the deadline displayed on your schedule.
- Rule Reference: All matches are self-officiated. Know the rules and consult the USTA’s “Friend at Court” for guidance.
Match Scheduling
- Assigned Week of Play: Matches must be completed and scores reported by the deadline for that week.
- Scheduling Process: If you cannot agree on a time, both players must offer 3 different days. If still unresolved, the more available player may report a default, recruit a sub, or request a rain check.
Home Court Rules
- Home Court Responsibility: Ensure courts are available and in playable condition. If court issues arise, the home player may be defaulted.
- Court Flexibility: Matches can be played at any agreed-upon location. Otherwise, play at the home player’s court.
Scoring & Match Play
- Format: Best 2 of 3 sets. A 12-point tiebreak (first to 7) is used at 6-6. If sets are split, players can either play a full third set or a 10-point tiebreak if both agree.
- Fast 4 Option: For quicker matches, a Fast 4 format (first to 4 games, no-ad scoring, and tiebreaks at 3-3) can be used if both players agree.
- Score Disputes: If there is a disagreement, return to the last agreed point and continue play.
Other Important Rules
- Substitutes: If a player cannot play, a sub can be used. Matches with subs do not affect player ratings but count toward standings.
- Defaults: If a player does not respond by the assigned week or shows up late, the opponent may claim a default win and receive 10 points.
- Rain Checks: Each player is allowed one rain check per season to extend the match deadline.
Conduct & Disputes
- Sportsmanship: Unsportsmanlike conduct is not tolerated. Report issues to the League Coordinator.
- Protests: Official protests must be stated during the match. If a ruling is required, complete the match under protest and notify the coordinator afterward.
